My Dad and Uncle
I'm 72 yrs old and I was a Junior in H.S. when they made this recording. Most all of the musicians in this band are from Vermilion County Illinois. They played for square dances sometimes twice a week and had a loyal following. I remember my Dad saying how he would rather play music for the nursing home patients for free, than anywhere else for money. They were all good people, but naturally I think the best one was my father. Don Boland played the mandolin and my uncle Cleo was on stand up bass. The band played for several years together. After the Mountaineers disbanded my Dad accepted the Lord and took his gift to entertain fellow Christians. I am sure he won many souls with his Gospel Solos on more than one occasion.
July 23, 1995 was a Sunday, Don was playing a Gospel Hymn at the Church when the Almighty Called him to come play at a greater place. That's where he is now. I know it.
